Cowichan Farm Hub.
Cowichan Farm Hub, formerly known as the Garden Education Centre, is a three-acre community farm beside Somenos Creek on the ancestral territory of the Quw’utsun Nation. The Farm Hub is home to a plant nursery specializing in native and medicinal plants and vegetable seedlings. It is a place to purchase plants that bring restoration to the region as well as the body. We focus on education through welcoming volunteers, hosting workshops and gardening alongside the community.
The Farm Hub is also the site of the CGC’s Seed Farm. We grow certified organic crops specifically for seed production and strive to educate farmers and community members on the importance of locally adapted, open-sourced seeds. There are seed packets for home gardeners and bulk quantities for farm scale. A beautiful variety of vegetable, grain, pulse and flower seeds are available for sale.
CGC’s Inclusive Farming Program supports individuals with disabilities to develop gardening skills with funding support from the Victoria Foundation. Also on the site is the Ross Wristen Inclusion Garden, a communally tended market garden set up to make gardening more comfortable, inclusive and accessible. In addition to our communal garden, we offer individual garden plots and raised, wheelchair-accessible planter boxes for independent gardening.
Cowichan Farm Hub is also home to the Cowichan Regional Seed Bank, Seed Library and Agricultural Equipment Library. Come on by to check out our plants and seeds for sale, take a tour of the farm and ask your gardening questions! We are open Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Please find us at 2431 Beverly St.
You can also purchase our plants and seeds through Cow-op, at the reFresh Cowichan Marketplace and through email at farmhub@cowichangreencommunity.org.
Cowichan Community Seed Library
A local food revolution begins with seeds! The Community Seed Library is an offering to the community, connecting local growers with locally adapted seeds. We invite all community members to contribute local non-GMO seeds and also to come and take seeds to grow out in their gardens! This is an excellent opportunity to support local seed sovereignty and increase the collective seed bank.
